Anthony Brown & group therAPy
Gospel music legends and fans alike are abuzz about Stellar Award Winner Anthony Brown — a young, urban, musically gifted songwriter and vocalist. With an artistic pedigree that is steadily strengthening his stature and distinction, Brown is quickly becoming recognized as an up-and-coming force in the gospel music industry.
Since Maurette Brown Clark recorded the Billboard #1 hit he penned, “It Ain’t Over,” the man behind this dynamic offering is rising to the surface and singing of expectation and harvest. On Brown-Clark’s Stellar Award winning album “The Dream,” Brown also penned the project’s anthem of power, “Sovereign God.” He has also written and produced several songs on her newest project including the title cut and single, “I Hear the Sound of Victory”.
His prowess as a vocal leader is rare given his age. A music prodigy who began playing the piano at 3, he served as vocal director and vocal producer for the live recording of “The Dream” as well as on “Times of Refreshing,” the 2009 release of nationally- renowned praise and worship artist, Stephen Hurd. Due in part to his contributions, Brown-Clark and Hurd were awarded Stellar Awards for Praise and Worship CD of the Year in 2008 and 2009, respectively.
Brown, along with group therAPy, have been featured in B.E.T.’s Celebration of Gospel and the Essence Music Festival. He has also been a regular featured performer on Bobby Jones Gospel every year since 2010 and has worked with such artists as Donald Lawrence, Donnie McClurkin, Stevie Wonder, Fred Hammond, Vashawn Mitchell, Myron Butler, Tasha Cobbs, and the legendary Caravans.
Brown serves as the Assistant Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden where John K. Jenkins, Sr., is Senior Pastor.
The group’s self-titled debut album received a Dove Award Nomination for Best Contemporary Gospel/Urban Album of the Year in 2013 along with 11 Stellar Award Nominations and receiving awards for Best Contemporary Male Vocalist of the Year and Best Group Duo of the Year in 2014. “Testimony,” the first single from his release has been named by Billboard as the longest running Top 10 Gospel Radio Single.
The single “Worth” from the current project, EVERYDAY JESUS, garnered Brown his first Grammy nomination for “Best Gospel Performance / Song.” The song continues to stay strong as the #1 on Billboard Gospel Airplay Chart for an amazing 22 weeks, as well as being the top selling gospel digital song. EVERYDAY JESUS debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard’s Top Gospel chart upon it’s release and remains of the top selling gospel albums. The album also earned Brown 10 Stellar Award nominations in 2016.
