BLOG: Kristina’s IMMERSE Story

By January 20, 2015February 15th, 2016Blog

Kristina’s IMMERSE experience set her on a different course in her life by dramatically changing her college plans. Instead of going to the college that had offered her a great scholarship, she took a leap of faith and what God did blew her mind. Read her story below!

While at Immerse I felt an immense peace and calling on my heart to stay home and serve at my local church on the worship team. I immediately called some of my mentors and asked them to be in prayer for me through this huge transition.

Not even three days later I called up John Brown University (JBU) and told them I would not be attending in the fall and would be attending community college in Tulsa. To most people this would be a scary step to take, but there was extreme comfort in knowing I was walking in the will of the Lord and I was excited for what was to come.

I am currently getting paid to mentor the youth worship band and am serving every week on the “Big Church” worship team. Getting to work at the church and do what I love has been an incredible blessing. I have learned more than I ever would have at JBU because I am getting to experience worship ministry first hand right out of high school. I now have the time to write worship songs and even have the opportunity to introduce an original song to our congregation next week that we will be using in our upcoming worship sets.

In three weeks I will also get to check off something that has been on my bucket list since I was in sixth grade…getting to be a part of the worship team for DNOW weekend! DNOW weekend is an event where about 8-12 local student ministries all gather and worship as one! And last but not least I am serving weekly on the worship team at Tulsa Community College’s Baptist Collegiate Ministry, and I love every minute of worship with those sweet friends of mine.

I am SO grateful for all of these opportunities the Lord has placed in front of me this past semester. This is what I want to do the rest of my life, and I am so thankful that I listened to his calling on my heart at Immerse last year. Immerse was such an incredible experience for me and I think anyone who is interested in worship music should attend.

I will close with one of my favorite verses that my mom showed me several years ago, Isaiah 30:21, “And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whether you turn to the right or the left”.  I am so in love with Jesus and I love getting to worship him through the sweet sound of music.
